"Love comes naturally. There is no need to search for love as it naturally happens. When he comes to you, the whole universe will conspire to keep you together".
I don't know if I come up with the above quote, or might have been a product of fairy tales I have seen, or books I have read. Apparently, I believed in the quote because it gives me a blissful sensation- a belief I have always regarded as ideal and wonderful. Yet, I never considered the word "notional" out of my favorite quote.
I am in my 26th year of existence-and counting. I didnt know that when people reach this age, they begin to question and search the veracity of their long-lived beliefs.
A month ago, I met someone who made me adopt an idea far different from my view. I sent him a text message with the above headline. In response, he exclaimed,
" Love does not always come naturally, it is not all about chance-but greatly a matter of choice".
Huh? -- His statement is so brag.
The next day, I talked to him personally and banished him of sounding materialistic.
He just echoed the same principle, with further explication.
"Love is a matter of choice. It is based on
reality. While it is true that love is a natural feeling, the possibility that it will happen magically between two people is rarely steadfast- very rare in middle age. Once you pass your blooming age, love is 80% choice and 20% chance. If you rely on chance alone, you will end up seeing yourself alone when you are old".
An abrupt rubberneck towards the wall was my response . If his idea holds reality- my heart will sore.
Did he mean to say that the love that I have known from stories and fairy tales were deceptive? When I think it over- his idea is closer to reality- mine seem to hide from an imaginary rainbow of false-hopes.
I am depressed.:[
